Respiratory therapists must triage among multiple alarms that demand their attention and respond appropriately. Alarm fatigue is a hazard associated with the multiple alarms to which healthcare providers are exposed. This presentation will discuss alarm events and alarm fatigue as well as review the 2014 TJC National Patient Saety Goals addressing alarm safety.
In addition to the webcast video, a copy of the November 2013 AARC Times article "Respiratory Therapists' Response to a National Clinical Alarm Survey" by Crystal Dunlevy and Shawna Strickland is included in this course. This article can be accessed in the "papers" tab of the course.
